The company I work for is looking at buying a thermwood c-40 (used). If they do its going to be dropped in my lap.

Can someone tell me what software this is going to use and possibly send me a sample program so I can see the G code?

I have been writing and editing code for over 10 years, I just need to see a program for the thurmwood, I think its is standard code but not sure.

Thanks

Mike

Hey Mike,
Yes it is standard G-code but the controller will do things that others can not. Your best bet is to find out what the serial # is and then call Thermwood's Service dept and give them the #. They can tell you pretty much everything that has been serviced on the CNC and what controller software is on it.

Hope you get the 2 books that come with the CNC. EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!!!

Do you know what year it is?

What size table?

Mine are 2002 and running 5.05 (I think) controller software. The new Gen II is really neat but I won't upgrade for a while because I will need to do hardware upgrades also and right now mine work so I won't change them unless I need to. it's about 10K+- each machine if I do the install.

What software are you going to use?

If you do not have any software yet what are you going to be doing with it? You can see some of what I am currently using below. PM me your email and phone# and I can give you a sample g-code but will need to talk to you first to make sure what machine you have and how it is oriented. Even though you said C-40 it depends on what year it is, what OS it is running, how your table is configured?

Here is a quick sample but I stripped the mid section out because it was a customer's project. I also added a G02 and G03 in so you could see arc commands but they will be a little different because they will need an "I" and a "J" in there also.

No problem.
The SN# is listed so I hope you called Thermwood to check on it.
MAKE SURE YOU FIND OUT WHAT THE OS IS!!!!!
Some of them had IBM's OS and most of them had Windows 2000. Call and talk to them to see what replacements costs are for the controller (You may want to upgrade to Gen II), spindle, servo, pump or anything that may be a big ticket item. Being used means you have no idea who ran it or what care they maintained it with so be prepared. That's what I did when I bought my 2nd Thermwood. I was prepared for the worst case and prayed for the best case and it has worked out very well.
