I'm working on the wife to let me knock down the wall between the shop, er, garage and the spare bedroom. So far, I'm not getting very far with the idea...

Congrats Bruce. What a nice feeling that has to be!!!
At a sage 34, I've managed to get to where I don't have vehicle payments now and drive decent vehicles 'tween the wife and I... and have about 20 years of mortgage left.

Cheers,
Greg

I paid off one house but the ex got it. So far I have been able to keep the second house that I paid off thanks to an inheritance. Don't think I will have any more exes so I should be able to keep this one till I croak.
It sure is a great feeling thinking I own my home.

It feels great but I think it will really hit me next month when I don't have to write that check! :)
No new tools on the horizon for me, LOML is pushing for a couple of inside remodeling jobs.

Joe, we’re planning on selling this place after I retire in 5 years and buying a home with enough land to build a shop on - if it doesn’t already have one.

Now go buy another one. It's the ultimate buyer's market. So get an investment property if you can.

I'd hold off on that...prices will continue to drop.

I have 21 years to go on my mortgage. Nice job, Bruce!!

Eric, I've thought about buying an investment property but at this stage of my life I think I'll just look for a nice 1500/2000 s/f home with a detached shop building and cruise the rest of the way...

Congratulations Bruce. We have one mortgage free home and it's a great feeling. The feeling will be even better when we sell the other house, but with the present market conditions that won't be for a while.

Congratulations Bruce. I have 8 years to go on my mortgage just when my last kid is out of college !!

It is an extra special bonus for you in that with the economy tanking the extra cash will provide an extra cushion.

Bruce, can you take care of mine, too??? :D :D :D

Seriously, prior to adopting the girls and needing our major addition, we were cruising on a nice 15 year mortgage and the end was in sight. That's changed now, but it was certainly worth making the decisions we did.
