I got an old electric motor.
There are only three wires coming out the body.
The plate says it can be 110/220
I hook it to 110 and it runs poorly needs to ramp up to speed and has no torque.

Hmm, must be 220 I'm thinking. One of those wires has to be a ground.

I'm checking the three leads exiting the motor.
No matter which leads I pair up on my multi meter they all show continuity.

I'm puzzled

Did you try the other wire for 110 - or were you afraid :)

Most OLD motors do not have a ground wire -- If they had one at all they just went to the case

Look at the last post in this (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?p=935309#post935309)thread. There's a pdf attached that may help you. If your motor pre-dates this standard, I don't know what to offer.
