My father collects canes, so with the extension on my 1014, I jumped at the chance to make him a custom cane. Pictures aren't great, but it's birdseye maple with cocobolo accents and handle. I ran 3/8" dowel through at each of the joints to reinforce the glue joint. It's just under an inch diameter at the bottom and just over an inch diameter under the handle.

How long, and what finish? You done good for a first try(?). I obtained some exotic 4/4 a few years ago and made several. Found a great source of handles at the thrift stores in the used umbrella rack. :):)

Looks pretty good for a first. What finish did you use?

Thanks all for the comments. Finish is sanded to 600 and then some wipe-on poly, finishes are still a week point for me. Total length comes to about 40", which seems a little long to me (5' 8"), but Dad's over 6 feet tall.

Very nice cane John! Bet that birdseye just sparkles in the sunlight! I'm sure your Dad loves it! Thanks for sharing!
