GOOD MORNING "CREEKERS"!

82 degrees today. That's supposed to be the high temp for central Wisconsin at almost the end of September.:) Supposed to moderate after the weekend to more normal fall temps. We do need some rain though.

It's been a hectic week around here. Golf and a trip to Madtown have pretty much consumed my time this week, so no shop time at all, nor have I gotten anything accomplished as far as getting stuff put away for the winter. :o We'll give it another shot this weekend.

What's on your agenda for the weekend?

Whatever it might be, make it an enjoyable time and above all be SAFE.

I'll be continuing to knock things off my todo list which is getting significantly shorter now that I've written it down, prioritized things, and gave myself due dates. Washing windows (I'm only responsible for outside and get to use the Windex that goes on the hose) and one more lawn mowing are on this weekends list as well as a couple minor maintenance tasks.

In the shop, I need to do some cleanup of tools dumped on the benches after other projects. Then I need to cut up a couple sheets of pre-finished maple ply I picked up on Wednesday to build the carcase for a vanity for my daughter's bathroom. That is going to be a long, drawn out project because it is going to be part of a mini-demo series for my club. Each month we are coving a different cabinet making topic--design, carcase, face frame, doors, drawers, etc. finishing up in February. This is in addition to our regular topic which some months will dovetail (pun intended) with the cabinet topic, for example raised panel doors is the main topic the month we do the cabinet doors, but the month we do face frames the main topic is turned spindles.

I also need to make some progress on my belt/disc sander overhaul which hasn't seen any progress in several weeks. I'd be happy if I can get all the sheet metal parts primed, includuing spraying and sanding primer/filler to fill the pitting where I used electrolysis to remove rust. There's some welding that needs to be done on the belt guard too.

And if there's any time left after that I need to start selecting lumber for the dresser who's design I posted in the design forum.

Strange and busy week. I hope to finish a major upgrade at one customer site today.

Tomorrow, do some turnings for a friend and some family.

Sunday, fly to Milwaukee for 2 weeks of training.

While there........I hope to get together with Karl (I love water parks) and our friend John M.! A Creeker gathering with two of Wisconsin's Best!

Was a busy week for me at work and at home. Last weekend I removed all the wallpaper in the kitchen and washed the walls off. This week I managed to get it painted with two coats and I think that will do. Tonight (assuming it doesn't need another coat) I'll be putting on base board trim, putting plug/light switch covers back on; install a new kitchen sink light. If time remains and my son goes to bed at a decent time, I'll head downstairs to continue working on the sanding of the bed. I'm hoping that I can get a lot of sanding done tonight and tomorrow in hopes that next week I can start finishing it. Saturday night we'll be heading over to a friends house to watch the Cornhuskers game - first one to watch this season. Normally would be going to the games, but started a family in the last year and funds are way too tight to have that "entertainment".

We have a wedding to attend, so that pretty much eliminates any shop time and even the normal horsie activities. I may have some time left to mow the lawn, however...

Finally no plans for me, hope to make some good headway on starting the toy chests to get them done in time for Christmas. Going to try to keep myself dedicated and take pictures the whole way on this project.

Lots of small stuff.

-run wiring for the impending dust collector (also find a 240v wall switch for it)
-finish the under wing router cabinet for the Sawstop so I can improve my storage, also put the dust collector connection for the router on it
-maybe start a new wall cabinet for storage in the garage, this has been on the list for a while
-start working on designs for a miter saw stand/cabinet.

I was going to bar-b-que a brisket, but will put that on hold for next weekend.

I need to get a bowl done for an upcoming Empty Bowls fund raiser on Saturday. It's supposed to rain so shop time is OK with you-know-who. Dinner Saturday evening with friends we have not seen for a while.

Sunday I have a couple of friends coming over for turning lessons.:D

I've forgotten what shop time is. I'm spending the first day of my "once a month" long weekend off at a new Gas Turbine/Generator facility that our company purchased recently.

This thing is pretty sweet compared to the antiquated 1970 model gas fired supercritical boiler/turbine-generator that I normally operate at our main facility.

This facility has a pair of gas turbine generators that are each capable of 160 megawatts output.

For the rest of the weekend I hope to get enough time to finish the walk-in shower I have been installing in my master bath. Once that project is complete maybe there will be time for shop time again.

In-laws have left, so we're back to stairs and landscaping. I finished the first course of a 30lf concrete block wall today. Now that the first course is done, the next two should be fairly easy. LOML wants an elevated garden for tomatoes, peppers and such. She's got such a green thumb, I have to oblige. (besides, nothing like caprese salad when the heirlooms are ripe.)

Shop time has centered around the band saw. I'm re-sawing a lot of 4/4 spanish cedar to 1/4", so I can glue it to plywood and panel the walk in closet. My first few cuts stunk, but I'm starting to get the hang of it now. I dislike working with spanish cedar -- even with a surgical mask I end up sneezing my head off.

NFL on Sunday, naturally. I get my reading done between plays. I bought a few more Taunton books, and I'd like to read them this weekend.

Think I'll make some Buffalo wings Sunday morning...

Went to the neighbor’s funeral today, she was only 44 but cancer got the best of her. I've been building her husband bar stools for their hunting cabin. I thought he might want to get away from the home for a few days, so I finish the stool so he can take them to the mountains, if he wants.
Time to clean up the shop and mount the Byrd heads on the jointer and planner.

I got the two new stud walls built in my office last week...doing a bit of subdividing after the landlord raised the rent by 50%. Well, I never needed all that space, and the rent increase was just a friendly nudge to get leaner. Word is they will double the rent next year. Hmmmm, wonder if I can do all my work out of a closet??

Had a guy come in to do dry wall this week. So, today was painting. Tomorrow, I have to re-install beadboard, chair rail, crown moulding, and baseboard.

Also need to order new wood letters for signage. Company has changed their logo a bit, and I'm making the actual logo out of cabinet grade ply. However, I need wooden (or MDF) letters about 10" high. Any suggestions out there for reasonable cost? I need Times New Roman Bold, just 12 letters total, but I hate to pick a provider blind off the internet. My old 18" letters just won't fit any longer, and the company's name change makes a few more letters mandatory.

I will also need a blue spray paint that is as close as possible to Pantone 541 blue (corporate requirement). Any paint specialists out there who can tell me what common brand can of spray paint will come closest to this number?

I put my shop cabinets on the wall today. They don't have doors yet, but at least I can get my stuff off the floor and make some room for my bandsaw!

I'm on my third weekend of getting rid of the "Pink Room". This is a room off the entry (originally a bedroom that opened to the hall in the bedroom suite, but that door was walled off and a double wide opening to the foyer built instead) that we have been using as a storage room. LOML will annex it for her extended studio teaching space, and a place for family to wait while kiddos are taking their music lessons. Everything it the room, except for the ceiling, is pink. Pink walls. Pink crown molding. Pink carpet!!!! Thus the name.
Where the wall for the closet was taken down, it was patched horribly. I wish I had the time and money to take the ceiling out and redo it, but it will have to suffice to feather out this problem as best I can. It is about there. I put the last coat of mud on this afternoon, and will finish sand tomorrow morning. The spot in the center of the room where a light/ceiling fan was originally installed, had been taken out, and another bad patch job done there. I have a new box installed to handle a new fan and light. I'm wiring a 3 way switch so that if someone in the future decides to turn this back into a bedroom, there will be a light switch in the right position. It and the wiring were still in the wall. I found it on the first try! Actually I marked where I wanted the switch to be, marked the corners with a drill, and cut it out to find box and wiring exactly where I cut! I was dumbfounded by my luck. :D Still need to run the wiring for the fan power, but that will be easy to do since there is a junction box about 8' away.
So if all goes well tomorrow, I may get to put a coat of primer on the walls and ceilings of this room and the entry. Next week will be texture, and another coat of primer, then the following weekend topcoat and trim.
After that, I'll get to do tile. (Did I say, get to do:confused:) Hope my knees are up to it! Jim.

My weekend:

8-5 Fri-Sat-Sun: work
5-7 Fri-Sat-Sun: On-duty, in uniform, but using a chainsaw. I'm "converting" a big poplar tree into . The only bad thing is that I am currently using a saw with a 16" bar. Its a trooper, and doesn't stop cutting, but I have to cut from multiple directions. Buying a bigger one on Monday. I've got two more 2' x 14' logs, so I'll be busy for a couple of days.
7-whenever: rest, eat, make rounds...

Good weekend.
