Shop Smith

Hello fellow creekers,
I just got an old Shop Smith and I will be playing with it.
I'm usually over in the laser forum.
I tried to get on the Yahoo Shop Smith forum but they denied me! Any one know any thing about them and why I would be denied? I'm a nice guy, really I am!:eek:

Better yet go to www (DOT (http://www%28DOT)) shopsmith (DOT) net/forums. That is the shopsmith forums. A lot of great info from owners.

There is also a great library of videos on how to use and repair your shopsmith.

Brian - Just FYI, Since sitting up new accounts on that and other forums is handled by computer software automatically, I'm guessing it's nothing personal, just a glitch.
I gave it a try and had no problem.

There is another Shopsmith users group at ssug.org I originally started my woodworking with a SS class and then purchased one. A long slippery slope it has been.

At the Shopsmith link I gave above there is a guy Bill Mayo that is an expert on the 10er. And anything Shopsmith. He deals in parts for the 10er. He is not a woodworker but a machinist who loves the 10er machine.

I own and like my used 1993 Mark V. Actually I like the belt sander on the accessory stand the most! I have always been lulled by the shopsmith for some reason. The sawdust academy videos are great. Would really like a SS pin router setup!

A few weeks back I got to tour the Shopsmith Factory? The inventor of the shopsmith in the 1940's made equipment to manufacture the tool from the 10er it self. They are still in use today on the factory floor.
Shopsmith is a small company. Only like 20 some employees. Very dedicated employees fighting to keep a great American tool alive.
I called once to check on my order of a belt sander. Gail (the lady that answers the phone) said ,without looking on the computer or anything, Oh yes. I saw it sitting on the dock waiting on FedEx to pick up. With just my name she knew the order and what was going on with it. Refreshing in today world. Shopsmith is a class act.

A gentleman named Skip Campbell from Texas runs the yahoo 10ER group. Unless his health has gottem away from him he usually welcomes every new member personally.

He's the most knowledgeable and generous person I've come across. he helpedme fix several Shopsmiths back in the day I was seling them on Ebay. Sold around 40 of them before I called it quits.
