Has anyone used either of these calipers.
Would you recommend them?
Which one would be more useful the 4" or the 6"?
Thanks
Dennis

I have never used my calipers over a few inches and personally could likely be happy with the smaller one you describe. ~6" seems to be the "standard" size, however...

I have the 6" from rockler and keep it in my apron all the time. However I can't think of a time I have used it to measure anything over 2" let alone 4". That being said the 6" has a little more metal to it and might hold up a little better. For what its worth, I work for a metrology lab and even the 15buck calipers from harbor freight are very accurate. I don't think you will ses any difference in any of them in that respect. Only durability.

Another vote for HF digital caliper and I am with Jim on the smaller one. However, when I bought mine "on sale" at HF for $15+, it was cheaper than the 4"!!

I like the 4" for my apron. the 6" is handy to keep by tools.

These 6" are good quality and an excellent value at the current price:

I have them and an 8" Mitutoya and they both read the same. Midway is a top notch store.

All of mine could be 4" and I would be happy. The one I have that is in 128ths gets used the least. Altough I wanted 128ths, the ones in 64ths are preferred in practice.

Although I don't have the brands you are talking about, I have several calipers. A 4", 6" ,8" and some MONSTER thing that's not a real dial, digital or vernier caliper.
I hate the 4" because it's just too short to feel comfortable in your hand if your reading anything over 1". Mine came in a 6" case so it didn't even save any room for me.
