Auto resize of pics?

I've noticed that when uploading pics that are greater than the limit, they are automatically adjusted to be below the limit. I like this feature since it saves me a step now.

But is it resaving at a lower jpg resolution or resizing? Just curious.

The picture resize feature is new to this version of vBulletin. I'm not sure yet about how it works, possibly our System Admin Aaron Koehl can help...I'll ask.
