I found a Stanley #3C this weekend, and if I've typed it correctly it's a Type 18 from 1946-47. Nice little plane, was in a little rough condition, but not too bad.
Here's an indication of the general rust bloom when I got it.

Here are a few shots after just some general cleaning and sharpening the blade, and putting the plane back to work on a scrap of bubinga.

I'm not sure if the plane blade hit a few nails, or someone tried to pull nails with it, but it took a fair bit of work to get the blade back in shape.
I'll do a little more work to it later. The corrugated sole is pretty good, but there is some minor surface pitting which I'll grind out when I flatten the sole, but the plane seems to work pretty well just as is.
I still get a big charge out of finding some rusty plane and putting it back to work.
I think it was a good buy for $5.00.;)
