Well here are the pictures of the burl slab I promised about a week ago. I have a question though. The finish is antique oil hand buffed. The question is, I did nothing with the "bark" The result is it is a bit dull and if handled roughly sheds small (like sawdust particles) I wonder if I should try to spray the edge with some shellac or perhaps apply CA or leave it ? Had I thought of it before I did the finish surfaces I think I would have sprayed the bark with three or four coats of shellac.

Beautiful Job!!! If it were mine, I'd very carefully CA the bark and the cambium layer.
It'll keep the bark longer.
Keep a rag handy to very quickly wipe any runs from the beautiful grain.

Thanks Allen, I think I will get the CA bottle out. If I don't eventually the bark is going to deteriorate badly

It is a cherry burl

Great looking piece Earl. I think CA will be the ticket to keeping the bark intact. Well done.

Earl - you did a great job on the cherry burl! Took a real nice finish! I'm sure the CA will work for the bark issue - just sure seems like it is going to be a lot of it! Hope it works out for you!
