View Full Version : Does the DW746 on Amazon really have no fence?

I see the DW746 on Amazon listed with no fence for $600, free shipping and they are offering 24 months no interest. I see the title lists no fence but the technical detail says it has a fence.

I see the rails system listed (DW7468) separately, but that does not have a fence either.

Has anyone bought this model and can confirm if it does or doesn't actually include a fence, but just not the rails. If it doesn't can a DeWalt fence be purchased anywhere? I can't find one.

I think the sliding table might be a nice add on down the road and don't know if a 3rd party fence would interfere.

Looking at the Dewalt site they show the DW746X comes with a fence and the DW746 does not have a fence.

That is funny but I guess they sell it that way so you can put the fence you want on it.

It is strange that they sell a bare model, the rails but not the actual fence. I did see one review on amazon that mentioned it shipped with a fence but no rails. All in all very odd.

The DW746 is ~ $605 shipped with steel wings and no fence. Any standard aftermarket fence will fit the DeWalt. You can grab a very good Delta T2 steel t-square type fence from Lowes for ~ $150, or have Amazon ship it for ~ $159.....making the DW746 roughly $750 with fence and steel wings. The Vega U26 fence would be ~ $250 shipped. The DW746"X" with the DeWalt stock fence is ~ $1200 shipped with steel wings, making it a $450 fence system, which buys you a commercial Biesemeyer fence. Cast iron wings add ~ $100 each. The DW sliding table can be added to most standard table saws, and most standard sliders can be added to the DW. The original knocks against the 746 were lack of cast iron wings and the stock fence for the price.

The DW was one of the earlier hybrids introduced around 2000, and at that time, was considered by many to be better than the original Jet Supersaw, which was about the only other hybrid available. Jet now offers several improved hybrids that offer cast iron wings and a Biese style fence. Amazon currenlty shows the Proshop 708480k with steel wings for ~ $900 shipped (with fence), the Proshop 708481K with 52" rip, extension table and legs for ~ $943 shipped, the Proshop 708482k with cast iron wings is ~ $1000 shipped.

Other options include the Grizzly G0478 for ~ $872 shipped with a Biese style fence, cast wings, and full enclosure (loaded). The Grizzly G0661 is a hybrid by my definitions and includes a real riving knife, loaded....~ $822 shipped, but actual delivery time may not be definite. If you've got 220v, you can get a Grizzly 3hp 1023SL industrial cabinet saw for ~ $1092 shipped (loaded).

The Steel City saws and Craftsman 22124 hybrids with cabinet mounted trunnions are also worth a look. Delivery could likely be arranged.

Good luck with your selection.

Well if anybody has a Dewalt fence that they'd be willing to part with let me know.

The saw does come with a fence, but no rails. The amazon description is a little off.
