I am looking for advice on a vacuum pump for a vacuum chuck setup. Would the pump I have linked to be adequate for a homemade arrangement?

TIA for any advice you provide!!

John, had to go and find my Surplus Center catalog as they no longer carry the specs for the Gast 523 on the website. The only difference between the two pumps is that the 523 is rated for 4.5 cfm at 0 psi and the pump you are looking at (522) is rated for 4.0 cfm at 0 psi. I personally don't think that the small difference in airflow would make any difference in performance but I will leave that to others with more vac experience than me.

Harbor freight caries two pumps that several of our local club members have used and like very much.

I checked with Bill Noble and he indicated it "could" be a little on the weak side with the 1/4 hp motor if you had much leakage around your chuck. He did think it would work though.

Thanks to everyone for their advice!!
