I have a friend with land in Coldspring, TX that has some large oak trees down and a hickory tree he says is about 3' at the base, 70' tall.

Is that worth messing with as far as trying to get someone to saw up the logs, etc.? I assume all the local mills are flush with downed trees after hurricane Ike.

He's interested in cutting up/getting rid of the stuff and was about to until I told him to hold off for a day or so.

Kevin, there is a sawyer down in that area, but I can't remember the name. It has been discussed here several times. Maybe do a SMC search on hardwood sources in the Houston area. Seems they are north of Houston. Maybe some of the locals will chime in here.
Another thought is to search for the portable saw mill manufacturers, and get leads from them. I think I've read here about someone doing that for a portable guy. But you are right, they may be covered up in wood right now. Jim.

Woodweb has listings for sawmills all over the place. I would saw it all into lumber if I had a mill.

Sawmillers hang out there they are a nice bunch of guys and someone should be able to help you.

Kevin,
My favorite forum on sawmills is the"Milling and sawmills" section at arboristsite.com.
I've met "aggiewoodbutchr" there who mills some real large logs. He has some pecans that are 4' wide or larger at the crotches. He lives near Hockley, on the northwest side of Houston.
Try in there.
