This is my first attempt at cabinetry, and it is bathroom vanity for a house my friend is fixing up to sell. It seemed to get harder as I went; the plywood box was easy, the mesquite faceframe was a little tougher, and the doors were pretty tricky. I got most of the mesquite for free from the reject pile at a small flooring mill. Everything is complete, and I'm just waiting for the finish to dry before I put the doors and panels back on and install it.

Kevin, I'm new in Tx. where there is lots and lots of mesquite. How well does it machine?
As soon as you come up with something, everyone wants to copy.

Mesquite is one of my favorite woods to work with. It is on the hard side, but is fairly easy to work with, and is one of the most stable woods you will ever find. I also like that it is sustainable, locally available for me, and I think it is an absolutely beautiful wood.

Here's what the cabinet looks like complete, and some pics of a curved mesquite mantle I made for the same house.

That curved mantel is some impressive work, too, Jason.

Thanks, the burnt adobe fireplace it's on is going to get stuccoed, and painted white, which I think will make the figure in the mesquite really pop. I'm also installing mesquite flooring in that same room.

Oh, yea...adobe is a great way to make that fireplace come alive!
