Here are a few shots of my latest project -- an entertainment center to house my 30" widescreen HDTV, Directv DVR receiver, VCR and DVD player. It's made from red oak and red oak ply and finished with all waterbased finishes, Fuhr golden oak stain, Target Coating's Oxford Ultraseal WB Shellac and Targets Emtech 8000 Conversion Varnish.

The only unique feature in this EC is in the bottom portion of the cabinet.

There are the usual doors covering adjustable shelves

plus a center section I call my pull-out shelves for DVDs and VHS tapes.

This is supported with 3 full extension slides (2 on back and 1 on the front) to keep everything supported.

It was a fun project. Thanks for looking.

Jim, nice looking unit!

Was the 3rd slide for the pull-out a late edition, or planned from the start? I have a similar built-in to do in the next few weeks, although my shelves will be slanted down in back 3/4". If a late edition, how "flimsy" (for lack of a more descriptive word) was the pull-out with only 2 slides? My pullout will be behind a door.

Thanks! Todd

Todd, I planned for the 3rd slide figuring it would help keep things aligned etc. It probably is not absolutely needed but it sure adds to the stability of the drawer. Now that I think about it a bottom slide would accomplish the same thing and not be visible. In fact you might consider mounting the slides top & bottom. This should provide plenty of stability.

Now if you can just get the middle drawer to come out with a push of the remote it will be perfect!:D It will really impress your friends! Nice work and design.;)

As the "boss" walked past the computer a minute ago and said "nice entertainment center". "It amazes me that you guys can take a flat board and turn it into something beautiful"
Now I don't have to say anything because - I AM NOT THE BOSS!
You heard it from her.
