Doug a long time ago someone (I do apologise because I've forgotten who it was) made the most spectacular acrylic clock (I prayed I'd get the Corel plans but it never happened :() which was in my opinion much better than the one in that video.

Here's one wot I made earlier.

The sun-and-planets movement is based on an 18th century mantle clock.

The movement is OK, but I have so far failed to get the escapement/pedulum right (anyone know how to design these?). I could cheat and put an electric motor in - it would still look inpressive.

This is just a prototype from birch ply and it looks pretty impressive. Once the pendulum problem is sorted, the frame would be remade in nice wood (cherry???) and most of the gears in smoked acrylic.

I'm just finishing a clock from plans by Clayton Boyer. OK, I tweaked the plans so I could be more creative, and it's really being fun. Not quite finished; I keep finding parts to redo, and working at the little stuff so it will run properly. It's mostly plywood for strength, layered and topped with monkeypod wood.
There are some freebie plans on the net; I haven't tried those yet.
