For some time I have admired the burl slab bowl turnings that I occasionally see. But until today I have not put one on the lathe to try. Well today was the day. Here are a couple of pictures of work in progress. The last picture is one coat of wet oil on side one. Since I have just started the finishing it is simply sitting on my table saw. I will post pictures of the finished product when I get there should take about two weeks to get enough coats on and hand buffed. I thought about the beal buff for about two seconds and decided that would be a baddddddddd idea

A very fine piece there, Earl! Great job.

I remember my first one. (It's also my only one, to-date) Very scary to turn, but the end result was absolutely worth it!

It is a Cherry burl. This particular one came from south east Wisconsin.
