View Full Version : Router fence centering jig

Somewhere I saw a jig or plans for a jig to set the router fence to half the width of the workpiece. I found one that Prazi offers but it's too small.

If I remember correctly (I think there was even a photo), there was a pin at either end and one in the center. The center pin went into the router collet. One end pin rested directly against the fence, and the other pin rested against the workpiece which was against the fence.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? If it doesn't ring a bell, do you think the design sounds feasible enough to attempt to build one myself?

I have a tool made by Incra called the Auto Center which does what I think you want. I was unable to find it on their website but you can see it here...

Is that any help to you?

Looks like the one at Hartville is on clearance with no price, etc. listed. Discontinued? Out of Stock?

Here's (http://www.woodpeck.com/accessories.html) a link that at least implies it's still available.

But, it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to reproduce for yourself. Need to be pretty precise and accurate in layout and fab for the results to be usable. Might be worth the $15 if you do a lot of work requiring the work to be accurately centered. Assuming, of course, the thing works and my experience with Incra products leads me to believe it probably does.

A really easy version would be to take 3 bolts, 3 nuts and a length of plumbers strapping. One bolt on each end and one bolt in the middle and in about 2 seconds you would have the same thing.

You could sub out heavier perforated steel, but the idea is the same. It shouldn't be difficult to make at all.
