Push block tip

I saw a post in Neanderthal Heaven titled 'float' and it reminded me of a tip I'd like to pass on:

If any of you like to use push blocks on the router table or saw, I have a cheap alternative to the $6 ones you can get from Rockler or WCraft:


I bought a few $0.59 plastic grout floats from Lowes to which I adhered sections of an old computer mouse pad. The handle ain't angled like the other ones, but it works fine for me.

I use the larger tile grout ones from the Box with about a 1/2" rubber base on them... then put a piece of self adhesive 120 grit paper on the bottom. I like the larger ones as the handle is bigger and you have some major area between the bottom and your hand in the handle.

And you can also use the drywall sander pads that have larger surfaces, and large handle-grips. Leave an old sheet in place for some grip.

Personally, I don't like any kind of "pads", from my experience, they become slippery after some usage.

I glued "anti-skid tape" (the one used for bath tabs) or just sanding paper...

That's what I love about this forum. You can put forth a Hyundai of a tip, and someone's already found a way to Rolls Royce it!!!
