I never seemed to have what I needed at the table saw; dado blades, saw wrench, etc, so I built some drawers to fix that problem. Now I have no excuse not to grab a push stick while sawing... (they're in the top drawer). My next project will probably be an out-feed table, but I cant seem to find any I really like. Any suggestions?

I'm building a New Yankee Workshop work table, and going to use that as an outfeed table as well. You can make it any size to suit your space, I'm making mine 4 feet by 5 feet.

I see a serious flaw in your pictures.

No sawdust on the floor...

very nice use of space though, and highly convenient

What's the connection between Powermatic (front) and Porter Cable (back)? Have I slept through another PM ownership change??

I'm not interested in norm's out-feed table, don't get me wrong; its nice, but I am looking for something that folds out of the way or is removable. There's porter cable cardboard on the back cause it came with my omnijig and it works perfect for dust collection. There's no sawdust on the floor because I spent 2 hours cleaning the shop before the photos. Plus I'm Dutch ... and we like things clean :)

How do you like the Omnijig? Mine's still in the box (after 2 months)...

I have the 24" omnijig also, and have been happy with it for my uses. Though a second router will make setting and fine tuning the cuts MUCH easier in the future.

I wasn't talking about his outfeed table, I meant his work table. The one with the folding wheels on it that he uses for assembly. I'm making one of those to use as an outfeed table, and since it has wheels I can move it wherever I want.

Laurie, Norm's worktable is nice too ... I built this one which I can use as an outfeed table if I want to. However I very rarely use it as one. I am looking for something that hangs off the back of the saw.

I do like the omnijig, there was some fine tuning and adjustments that need to be made to the index card though. Check out the posts here:

I built an outfeed table for my older Unisaw that folds down with the use of a piano hinge. Just a Melamine surface edged with 1/4" oak. For the legs I used 1 1/2" square oak and folding/locking hinges from the Lee Valley hardware catalog, and adjustable feet from the local big box store. Adds about 6-8 additional square feet for long rips, and often get used for an assembly table.
As soon as I get this picture posting thing figured out, I will post a pic.
There are folding outfeed tables for sale; the Woodworkers Supply catalog has one with rollers, and Delta has one that folds down.

Mark,

How did you "level" the table with the draws to the saw? I noticed you had two seperate wheeled bases so I was wondering how you got the two level (so as not to have the new table / cabinet pull down or push up on the saw). Are the caster height adjustable?

I am thinking of building a cabinet under my router winger on my table saw and it is on a mobile base and have been thinking of how to get two componets (table saw on one base and the cabinet for the router wing with seperate casters) the same level. It seems that the final / fine adjustments to the height of the cabinet / caster is the diffuclut part.

Any help / ideas appreciated

Thanks!

Hi Mark,

Looks great. I was getting ready to build a similar unit. What are the dimensions that you used for the three drawers? -Kevin

Mark, very nice "system" you have there. I love the color match! If you're looking for a good folding outfeed table, check out Jim Becker's here: http://sawsndust.com/p-outfeed.htm

I remembered seeing this thread a month ago as I was nearing completion of my own Powermatic drawer project. I got the last piece yesterday, and except for a few details (like adjustments and belt guard) I got mine up and running. This is a 1966 PM 1200 20" drill press. It started life as part of a 6-head setup bolted on a production table, so it had no table, no base, and only a 42" column.

This is what it looked like when I got it:

I've worked this project off and on for about 7 months. All new bearings and belts. The motor is 1-1/2 hp three phase, so I've got it powered by a VFD. The head cranks up and down The base frame is all mortise & tenon, mostly of red oak to support the head weight (over 300 lb) without deflecting in use. Since the table was going to be fixed, I got a couple of old tablesaw extension wings to make it larger. The open casting allows me to clamp in most places, while the MDF wear strip in the middle is replaceable. The height is the same as my radial arm saw table so it will serve as an outfeed table. The drawers are on full-extension slides, and will hold all my drill & router bits as well as shaper cutters. Total price on the project was maybe $500 for the DP, bearings/belts/misc parts, VFD, and a Steel City laser to be mounted later. It doesn't have a light yet, but the one on the adjacent grinder works fine for now.

Jim K already mentioned the outfeed solution I had on the cabinet saw I used to own. A number of folks adapted it to the contractors' style saw like you have with good success, including Fred Voorhees. Fred recently upgraded to a cabinet saw and built another version of my "design", but full width.
