Here are two more bowls (I am very excited to be finally able to share my bowls and get your feedback). Both of these bowls are oak (all I can ever find is oak, beech, and birch) and were finished with antique oil and buffed.

Please comment and critique

Both have great form and a nice finish. Nice work all around.

Tom,
Very nice bowls. Oak can be tricky. Where are you located? We have no beech or birch (that I know of) in my neck of the woods.

Richard - I'm up in nh so we seem to have loads of oak, birch, and beech. A few loggers have allowed me to go through their cutoffs (all of the crotches and best wood) and take whatever I want because they discard these sections. I wouldn't be too bummed about not having birch or beech because they can be some pretty plain wood. Once and a while you will get a burl or some curl, but otherwise the wood doesn't have much 'character'

Tom,
You might try to spalt some of that birch. IIRC, I have seen some very beautiful spalted birch pieces. Search "spalted birch" on this forum.
