This piece was inspired by my friend Mike Fusion's segmented work. Been wanting to try it for awhile and finally got it done. The most difficult part is getting the alignment right. The finial is also segmented or stave constructed containg 4 pieces. Measures 3-3/8" dia. x 5-1/4" overall height. Finished with antique oil and buffed. Comments/critiques welcome.

That is really nice. I like the way the top flows into the finial.

Absolutely beautiful! Agree with Robert - having the top flow into the finial makes the finial look like it was pulled from the center. Very nice effect - very nice work!

Really Nice. This is one of my favorite boxes. I would like to see a picture of the foot, and a view from the top down to see the alignment on the End grain pieces.
By the way, did I say I really like this piece? :)

Very cool. I like the 4-stave finial a lot. Some careful centering required there.

That is really amazing. Just a thought, if you did another maybe you could design the finial as a chess piece?

Excellent work indeed, alignment is so important , very nice work Keith, very nice , a plexiglass lid like Steve's would work very well also IMO.

Keith, I have to agree with Brian...this is one of my favorite pieces that I have seen as well. Nice, nice job! By the way, Brian and I were talking and we both want to see the top view with the lid on...We are curious about how the segmenting looks on the finial and how it works with the rest of the box. Of course, that is us getting all artsy fartsy! Sorry to be such a bother.

Thaks all for your comments. Tamara and Brian, I am leaving town for the rest of the week and don't have the box here. I will try to get a picture next week and post it. Thanks again.

Keith,

There is no rush. I was just curious to see the way the lid matched up with the base. Thanks for indulging me.

Brian and Tamara, I have attached a really crappy picture looking down on the box. I didn't realize it untill I took the pic that the finial is not squared up:(

I know the thread is a few month old but had a question. I made TLOML this (Yes, I completely copied the design - Thanks Keith Burns and yes, I fessed up to her that it was not my design) but what would it be called. I was thinking of something other than "a real pretty ice bucket". Any thoughts?

Hope everyone had a great x-mas

Bill

Excellent job!!! Hope to try that someday when I can figure how to keep the wood on the lathe and not on the floor.:)

I guess I can let my buddy Keith away with this design, since I have stole more of his than he has of mine.;)
