I dislike all the store purchased sanding blocks I have for one reason or another, so I finally broke down and made two of these. They are made from scrap maple and measure 2 3/8" wide by 6 1/2" long. The nuts are 4140 steel that I Turned & knurled on the lathe, and then polished with buffing compound.

I haven't decided how I'm going to finish them yet, but I'm leaning towards a coat or two of epoxy.

That looks nice. What's the size and how does the paper fold under the cap?

Very nice. I have a similar block of a WOOD Magazine design in my shop...actually was built and given to me by a friend who works there. Very handy and very easy to use. I've been meaning to make more, in fact...

the block is 2 3/8" wide by 6 1/2" long. To fasten the paper, you loosen the bolt and push the paper under the cap in the front and back and then re tighten the bolt.

excellent. i'm with you on the store-bought. custom size and shape are what i need, and have been putting off making the "perfect" ones for too long.
