definitely not any maple I've seen. It almost looks like a bradford pear to me.

Doesn't look like any kind of maple leaf I've ever seen; Jack's suggestion catalpa might be a good guess if the leaves are on the large side.

I've got two acres of red alder, among other things... none of it looks like this tree.
