I swear there used to be a thread about 'show me your work bench' for people to post pictures of their design and builds, however I cannot find it for the life of me. If someone can find the link, please post it.

If not, please post your design. I find a wealth of information on the subject in the neanderthal forum, however I am more not a heavy neanderest (is that even a word?).

The height and size I am confident on what I want, however, the underside arrangement for storage and such is where I would like to spend some time learning/developing and researching.

I am going to get some block vises on the side and also dogs on the top, just also need to discern what material to make the top from (which there is another currently active thread discussing, so no need to repeat that subject here).

My primary purposes of the table will be for assembly, glue ups, maybe smaller hand routing jobs, and some hand tooling.

Thanks in advance for any info/links.

(FYI, I already have on order the Schwartz book, because i know someone will suggest it)

I used maple for my top. My underside is open but could be equipped with storage.

Alex,
I have a some stuff on my other tube I'll send ya tomorrow. I was going to do it earlier but was side tracked by the door.
Under bench storage, like Rob said it's easy to add after. And you won't have 100 planes, chisels, braces n bits n saws to organize...LOL. Although I do like that Neander way of tool tills, cabinets etc.
Go with a triple MDF top & hardboard topper. Beastly, cheap etc. Dogs will wear on it eventually, but some Neanderers here (Steve Wargo IIRC, search his posts for his bench build) have had one with dogs in it for years & going strong. Or a stick built top, there's arguements for both. My vote is for traditional. I have some MDF bench-assembly-storage flat spots already.
I've been planning mine for a little while, at least mentally planning. Twin screw on the end, standard quick release style face vice tho' I actually broke mine this weekend. Something about trying to hold a 100 lb or so cedar shed door I made and was touching up the fit a little too aggressively... might not be. But the door fit just right at least.
I have a decent set of metal working skills and tools at the day job that are free for gov't use. We happen to use alot of stainless steels at said job, so I've culled some heavy wall 3x3 and 4x4 square tubing material to make a stainless trestle out of. :D
I need to pick up the white oak for the top still.... bought it just need to go get it. 6 slabs of white 12/4 white oak 10" wide and 10' long. Wasn't the optimal material, but for $20 a slab I couldn't talk myself out of it.
If the MC on the wood is close, I'm going to get going on it in a month "or so." I'll keep you informed one way or another.
More things to do than hours in a day.... and an epically long winded post.

Cheers,
G
