I have a customer who would like to find this for something similar to be laser engraved:

Any ideas? I thought about running it on the cnc but tracking down the insides is almost as much trouble! Thanks for the help.

I was playing around with this idea a while back. Officemax (or pretty much any business supply store) does bindings with your printed material. I had them punch the holes in a blank sheet of paper, scanned and traced it. I cut the cover out of birch ply with the traced holes, engraved the cover and brought it back to officemax to have the binding put in. It was a novel idea, but I never went any further than the one I made for my son.

Ruben - Thanks for the help!

Craig - I played around with doing it myself but ran into a few small issues. I could easily run the the wood on the cnc for the shape and holes and laser the engravign as I already have the hole pattern in a file, but . . . I need to get the right photo inserts with the right hole pattern & they wanted a metal binding, not just the plastic ones. I'm not sure if gwiframes.com will work but it sure would be easier to find a supplier than to go through the trouble of putting it together - unless they wanted thousands!!! :D

Thanks!

Philip,
I use www.prairierose.com (http://www.prairierose.com). You can buy their items blank, but they don't advertise it too much. Depending on how many you need, I may have enough for you.

The coil type binding you are looking for comes in both a metal and a plastic version. In most large cities there are many commercial binderies that offer coil binding and will be able to do it in metal if that is what you need. They generally sell wholesale to printers, but most will do a small job directly if you track them down and bring it to them. You need to make sure to set up the cover holes correctly - this type of binding comes in several different "pitches" and sizes, and each reuires a different hole spacing.

If you have a local Kinko's the do both plastic and metal binding.
