That's really a nice piece Mike. The bark, worm and bug holes really add to it. It almost reminds me of a slightly melted Hershey Kiss (in a good way.)
I am tempted to move in order to find your wood source.

My luck with box elder hasn't been good lately. Some kind soul gave me a bunch of box elder pen blanks. Even with a super sharp skew, I have been able to get one to turn out yet. Tears....splinters........I have wasted about 5 sets of tubes so far.

I have turned a box elder hollow form with success....
