I propose that the premium tool makers and retailers out there, those that we all continuously rave about on these forums (you know who you are!), and others, hold an unannounced, one-day, 25% off sale this weekend to celebrate the economy, labor day, back to school, end of summer, return of the woodworking season, etc. What do you say, guys, your fans (and financiers) are here on these forums.

I say that when asking for something you are not going to get; go big or go home. How about 80% off and free delivery and setup plus an extended warranty?

Now you're just being greedy Glenn........ I think an extended warranty on parts only/ no labor would be fair LOL.

Sorry Jack, our unannounced "everything is free" day was month ago! I'm sorry you missed it. Many took advantage of it by calling everyone they knew, who in turn called everyone they knew.

By the end of a very long day, we had given away 3000 saws and other widgets totaling a loss of revenue of some $450,000.

Sorry, I couldn't resist guessing (in a bad "daymare") what the impact could mean.

But I tell you what. One day after we are all caught up, I'll do a one-day unannounced event just like you mention.

It just won't be tied to a holiday...

Take care, Mike

Okay Mike,

I'm going to start peppering you with emails to put me on the list for that day (just kidding, of course)!

I gotta tell you about this half back saw I was using last night: I'm pretty sure it was from a "boutique tool-maker" from Oregon (don't you hate that term "boutique"), and boy did it cut through that cherry like butter! Better than the ease of cutting, though, I found the cuts were nearly perfectly square on both axis.

Hope all is going well.

Tony Z.

'gotta read the fine print on all those "special deals" :)

Just like, "when I get some free time I'm gonna use all these tools to build something!" :D

I guess you're sayin' you don't have any saws on Overstock.com?

Hey Jack. Like I mentioned elsewhere, you made my day. Heck, might have just made my week with that!

Richard, yeah, the fine print is about being caught up. But it sounds like a fun thing to do so we will.

Tony...yeppers, I don't really like the boutique moniker. I'm just a tool maker. Thank you for the kind words re the saw. But any squareness of cut belongs to you.

I was using a really great chisel the other day. A Hearnshaw firmer chisel. Wonderful tool. Seems the guy using it pared outside the lines from inattention...

Take care, Mike
