We have an antique dresser in a spare bedroom, on her last visit our granddaughter left a cheap play purse on the top of it; due to the sunlight and heat it became stuck to the dresser, I removed the purse; but now I have this residue on the dresser; it is sticky; I have tries furniture polish' goof off' pledge etc.
How can I get this off.

The compounds in the plastic that make it flexible have migrated to the finish... There's a term for it.....
You can't get it off, the finish itself has been altered.

What kind of finish on the dresser?
If you say antique, could it be shellac, lacquer, or oil ?

I believe it to be shellac
