A couple of weeks ago I found a CL listing with some woodworking tools. Ad listed a lathe, drill press, jointer, and router table.

I stopped by to check them out found a retired gentleman downsizing his house.

Here's what I got:
Delta Lathe - I think model 1460. It's 12" x 36" and works well. $50

Delta DP220 drill press $75:

Bridgewood 6" Jointer: $150

And finally, router table/cabinet with router and precision fence: $225

The router is a Makita 3612C 3 1/4 variable speed plunge router and the fence is made by Jointech.

When picking up the tools he asked if I wanted the wood he had. I knew I'd have to make another trip for what I saw hanging on the lumber rack so I said yes and made an appointment to come back the following week.....

I filled my pickup truck full....of junk! He must have saved every cut-off and piece of scrap he ever made. He even gave me a paper bag filled with sawdust! I helped him out since I got such a good deal on those tools and took all the wood and built a huge fire.

In the pile were a few boards he said were "chestnut"...I'm hoping someone here might have an idea if that's true or not.

I made a small crosscut on the end to get a better look at the grain, though this picture isn't very good. The smell of the wood when making the cut was different...sorta reminded me of cedar, but definitely was not.

Any clue to the species of this wood would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chuck.

Can't help on the wood ID, but congrats on the score.

I especially like the DP. That bulb on the top is classic.

It does look like chestnut. Enjoy it if it is.

I agree with the chestnut assessment. Excellent score on the tools. I love old iron. Usually similar tools I come across on CL needs a lot of TLC, so I'd say that you did very well. Enjoy the new tools.
