This is some curly narra i spied at my local woodcraft. They had just put it on the shelves, i bought both 12 inch pieces. Here's the first call from it. This is the 4th call i have made to date. I'm using a double reed from CSUSA. Tru oil inside and out, and a top coat of ren wax.

That's a beautiful duck call. I like the tone of the metal double reeds too.

Curt,
Of course the answer to the wood chuck question is,"not as much as he could if he had power tools!"

Andrew - very nice duck call! Amazing wood - color and figure! So much going on in that wood that you lose all of your detail work unless really looking for it! Beautiful call! Should be able to sell for BIG bucks! Nice work!

Great looking call out of some beautiful wood. I have tried a couple of times to get some but always went higher than I wanted to pay.

Curt, it is a little hard to turn, but not too difficult. It sands really nice though. IIRC it's related to the same tree amboyna burl comes from. This call is going to another call maker for a logo he made for me

does it catch or just tear out, or is it just that it is hard? do you know if it cracks and warps when drying?

It's just hard and mine was dusty, i didn't get any real catches and not tear out. It is open grained i'm not sure about cracking and warping though, this was a dry piece when i got it.

Curtis,
Nara is the tree the amboya burl grows on. It turns very nice and easy. But the orange dust is a killer, very protection.
