Brian Brown and his lovely wife Tamara are in town on business. This morning they dropped by for a visit. Brian had indicated an interest in turning pens so we went to the shop. I sharpened my 1 5/8" Lacer and my 3/4" straight skew and we got with it. Brian and I roughed out and finish turned a FPP pen using just a skew. About that time, Joel Sauter dropped by and demonstrated the CA finish procedure. I will be ordering some CA today! Brian gifted us with some of that burl he found last week. So we have some bowls to turn. After some visiting, Joel left and we returned to the shop. Brian took up the skew and turned the upper half of a pen and Tamara took the skew and turned the lower half. Bernie, from roughout to finish using just a skew. Tamara and Brian both had curlies coming off that blank that were finer than frog hair. Brian and Tamara both I think are skew driving converts! They were both amazed by the finish you could get with that tool.:D

The two professional photographers had the camera so I'll be depending on them for proof!

Dennis,

They both are already turners and have turned out some really fine projects. Brian had indicated that he was uncomfortable using the skew. I just made up my mind to convert him. He seemed quite happy with the results and kept telling Tamara....you gotta try this.....I can't believe it's this easy. Well....she tried it.....and I think she liked it. You ought to have seen some of the bowls Brian brought to show Joel and I. Very nicely done. And........Tamara had turned a segmented NE HF. There are photos here of it. In my eyes and opinion it is indeed a thing of beauty.

I was just trying to help them tame that evil skew.

They both picked it up extremely well!

Uh Barry.....see the above. Brian and Tamara both...are professional photographers. They had a camera that cost more than my 1-ton Ford F-350 4WD pickup. They took the photos.Besides...my wife took both of her digital cameras with her to Vancouver WA to photograph the great-grandson.

Yaaawhooo Ken. Way to go. I have doing more and more practice with mine. I did a lidded box with my son the other day. It was so smooth I didn't even sand the outside. Brian you get that skew down and you will have a new go to tool. Again looks like a lot of fun.

Looks like a good time was had by all.

Correct me if I'm wrong here; in the last photo, I believe Ken is working on what is known as a "Woodturner's Workbench" ?

Steve,

There will be a whole lot more room once I get my lumber rack built so I can get 3 stacks of lumber off the floor. I'll gain at least 96 square feet of space back.
