My wife and I are considering moving to the Portland/Eugene area for a couple of years. Rather than try to relocate all my power tools out there (from the East coast) I was wondering if anyone knew of any cooperative shops where I could rent bench space/power tool usage.

Thanks!

Hi Gil,

You might peruse the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers web site for a contact email address and have them inquire among members. They also have a forum there one could post to.

Good bunch of folks.

along that line, contact Jerry Work -- he is active up there. Google for Jerry Work woodworker and you will get some interesting info. He is a real nice guy...and probably knows every shop and woodworker in the area.

I am part of a woodworkers co-op here in Portland. There are lot of different shops in our building. Our particular shop is full at the moment but I can ask around for you, and see if there is any other open spaces.

Check under the Commercial Rent section. Several times a year I see people advertising exactly what you’re looking for. There’s one on NE 28th and Sandy and another at about the 5400 block of SE Milwaukie Ave.

In SE Portland, there is a Co-op Wood Shop called Shop People. It costs $175/month, and you get access to every woodworking tool you need (as well as access to the metal shop, kilns in the pottery studio, and the jewelry studio). They also offer workspace for members. www.shoppeople.org
