Anybody know of a source that sells individual bamboo poles? I haven't had any luck with the Yeller pages around here and all the google searches can only locate sellers that sell in full bundles or cartons. I just looking for a few to make a wind chime from and am striking out.

Did you look in the fishing supplies?

Doug,
Let me know if you have any luck. I love the sound of the large bamboo wind chimes. I have been having fond memories of when I was a child fishing with a cane pole and have thought about giving it a try in my old age.

found this on yahoo first link listed.
You know Google is good for abstract searches, but I find yahoo or excite better for finding things that I know exactly what i am looking for.

a lot of times garden stores carry them. but you want the larger sizes so that may not work. http://www.bamboocraftsmanshop.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=45&Itemid=37

Haven't tried that but it's worth a look. I might be wanting some bigger diams than I think fishing poles would get made from though.

I'm with you on the sound. They're so much mellower than the metal ones.

I've been googling and been on all 3 of those sites. The first one has a $ 20.00 Charge for orders under $ 50.00 policy, 2nd one doesn't have any in the 3/4"-1-1/2" range, and not until trying to do the Checkout on the 3nd site does it tell you you cant order in the quantities you have in your cart. Haven't found one yet that doesn't have a $50 or $75 minimum order or only sells by full bundles/cartons.

I don't have any of the huge bamboo, but we've got some average diameter stuff. What sizes are you looking for?

Doug,

Try - http://www.franksupply.com/ - they carry quite a selection of bamboo.

I get bamboo from Franks Supply also, and sometimes from Bensons
http://www.bensonsimport.com/ both are in the Huntington Beach, Calif. area.

Another good source is Cali bamboo in the san Diego area. http://www.calibamboo.com/

Thanks. Both the Franks and Bensons sites look very promising. I hadn't found those 2 yet. Bonnie - my delay in getting back to your question was that it sent me back to a few sites on making and tuning the chimes to actually figure out some concrete sizes
http://fabridam.bravehost.com/bamboo.htm and
http://www.geocities.com/teeley2/chimeart.html were a couple I'd been looking at. My less-than-completely-developed plan was in part dependent on what I was able to find online, allowing for a fair amount of excess for tuning (or even a 2nd chime from the leftovers), and possible cutting to decrease shipping costs. Looks like the Franks site will work out well.
Muchos gracias amigos.

Flower shops can get them.

I have access to all sorts of sizes.

Bonnie,
I am looking for the larger size bamboo for making a chime out of it or a cane fishing pole and after looking at all of the posted sites that have bamboo for sale I have decided to purchase a chime that is already made and looking for a local source for the cane fishing pole. Looks like there are quite a few potential issues with the different types of bamboo that I didn't realize existed.
Thank you very much for offering to help with our bamboo dilemma.

Wow. Necro thread. I used to get mine at the local landscape nursery. They sell them for plant supports.

If you live in the state of Michigan, look up bamboo rod makers in your state. I'm sure they would be willing to sell you a few culms from their inventory. Michigan has great trout streams. Best wishes

This topic is from 2008... 13 years ago. I'll bet the Original Poster has solved the bamboo problem by now.

The thread was resurrected by a new poster, who replied to 3 threads about bamboo and then vanished.

I'd let this thread return to the grave...:D
