Does anyone know of a tutorial or series of diagrams that can help me figure out how to take a green log and cut it for use on hollow forms, boxes or spindle work?

Thanks!

Great guy and video. I haven't purchased the 2nd video yet but I will (I promise, Bill).

If you have a local woodturnering club....they may have a library that has one.

Bill's second video is as good as his first, can't wait he has a third in the works...Bruce

Dana I like doing a lot of my larger HF through the end grain, mount my log and spin away.
Bowl blanks I try to slice through the pith...I cut my log to the size I want 12" whatever, then take it to my bandsaw set it on end and try to cut through the pith. Sometimes the pith isn't centered so you turn the log to get the most usable pieces out of it. You can sub chainsaw for bandsaw if you don't have a large bandsaw.
Dana thats how I do it, I'm sure there are more turners here with a lot more experience than me....Hope this helps...Bruce

Hi Dana
One of my favorite books for showing the way to cut and also turn green wood, but especially the way a bowl or vase or any other turning will look like if cut in one way or how it looks when cut in an other way, is called "TURNING GREEN WOOD" it is by Michael O"Donnell.
It has a lot more in there, but it does give you a visual of how to look at a tree and see the what and the how, so you can make the right cut to get the piece you want.
I do recommend it highly.

Hi Dana
"TURNING GREEN WOOD" it is by Michael O"Donnell.

I do recommend it highly.

Thanks Leo! This is what I'm looking for.
I've already got both of Bill Grumbine's videos and have almost commited them to memory. They are awesome but don't answer the question about cutting logs for "non-bowl" projects. I'm sure Bill's next video will cover that ;-)

Thanks to everyone for your responses!
