I'm looking for sources of hardwood in Northern California, near San Jose/Santa Clara. I'm familiar with Southern Lumber (very nice, but $$$), but it seems like there should be some alternatives.

Thanks,

Roger

Hey Roger,

I've had good success with MacBeath hardwoods in Berkeley. They also have a location in San Jose.

I've had good luck with Global Wood Source (http://globalwoodsource.com/). They can be a little pricey but have great deals on occasion. They've been very easy to deal with for a low-volume hobbiest like myself.

Aura Hardwoods is in San Jose. I bought a bunch of maple from them for a cabinet job last year.

FYI. The Woodsman is in Stockton, 1 1/2 to 2 hours drive from San Jose. It's here in the Central Valley, over the hill, east, from Silicon Valley.

Add Handloggers, in Richmond, to the excellent list already posted:

All looks good to me. Jackal Hardwoods in Watsonville is a good place, too.
