I have a large piece of Macassar Ebony, 4" x 6" x 36". I do not trust my turning skills - hence the post. I was wondering if there was a turner in the NE Atlanta area (Gwinnett or Hall county) that would be interested in turning out a judges gavel and sounding board. I live in Flowery Branch. For payment, you can keep the balance of the chunk of ebony.....

My is from Brazil and her daughter has recently become a judge in Brazil. I'm a box maker - and plan on making a box for the gavel (if I find somebody to make me one).... so, the final product will wind up in Brazil!

I have a shopsmith lathe, but I don't trust my turning skills enough to attempt on this fine piece of wood. If interested, drop me a Private Message with contact info and we'll talk about it?

Ed,

Try Nick Cook, he is a real pro. His website is easy to find

The shop assistant when I was at John C. Campbell was BJ Hatcher, I think he is in Smyrna.
