I found these tools used and am thinking of picking them up, can someone recomend them or not. I hav a dewalt lunchbox plainer now so I figure this woule be an upgrade I also have a jet 6" joiner so the delta would be a upgrade.

Delta DJ-20 [Model 37-350] 8” Jointer
Jet 15” Planer [Model JWP-15HO]

Both tools are 8-10 years old the delta is the original model no the A omodel means it was before the casting problems.

They're pretty much the bread and butter of many shops. I saw that planer listed the other day for $700 and it seems like a good price.

I agree with Noah. Those are fine machines for home shop. I have the Jet 15" planer and it's been a great machine for me.
The wood I send through it is primarily dense, oily, tropical hardwoods, and it handles them just fine.

I don't own the DJ-20, but all of the complaints I remember reading about it revolved around shipping damage problems. Not an issue in this case. If the price is within your budget, go for it.

A great combo, one That I have and use. Be sure to download the manual from Delta and also the instructions for aligning the tables if ever needed.

I can't speak for the jointer but I do have the Jet 15 inch planner and it's quite a machine.

I have had a DJ20 in my shop for twenty years (bought new in '88). It has been in use every day. There has never been a problem with it. Ever. Never used any Jet tools....

DJ-20 is a great machine.

Dont know much about the planer but it seems to be well reviewed here.

I have the DJ 20 and just put the helical head on it and LOVE IT!!!. A lot quieter and seems like a new tool.

fwiw, not sure of the price, but there is a craigslist ad here locally where a guy is trying to sell a DJ-20 fpr $1500. I personally think that is a bit steep.

Brand new DJ-20 is $1499.00 in my town.

I have the DJ 20 in my shop as well. I put a straight edge on some 10 ft boards a while back. I am running carbide tipped blades and I haven't had any problems at all with it. Can't afford the helix head. If the price of the DJ20 you are looking at is less than $800.00 it is probably worth it. The 37-350A is the exact same jointer as the X5 by the way. The made in the USA 350's are an added bonus in my book. :)

I have a DJ-20 that I bought used and I estimate that it is about 12 years old. Best tool in my shop - I love that thing.

I also have the DJ-20 planer agree with the others that it is a great machine. Love using it. If the machine is in good shape its a great buy imo.:)
