To All,

Yep SawMill Creek has had technical problems since the wee hours of the morning. At this point we have not determined whether it is hardware or software related but we are working to identify and resolve the problem.

The board may continue to go offline unexpectedly for the next few hours or however long it takes us to correct the problem.

Did you check the oil in the crankcase? How about the blade alignment? ;)

Keith I want you to know the problems started before the wee hours of the A.M. I tried to log on last night at 7:30 p.m. Bealeton Virginia time and no logs available to sit on. I know you and Aaron are busy. I just wanted to let you know the trouble started last evening.

Thanks Ron,

It could help us to diagnose the problem knowing approximately when it started.

To All,

Sometime between 4pm and 6pm we will be transfering the SawMill Creek files to another hard drive. The shutdown should be very brief as we have already prepared another new drive and will only have to transfer the database. Our vBulletin software will be copied prior to the shutdown.

This is a precautionary effort as we suspect a possible problem with one of our new hard drives.

I was on last night around 8-8:30 EST. Could read posts, but any time I treid to post, it'd let me write and preview, but hang when I hit "submit".

Probably all my fault.

Don't know if this helps or not, but yesterday I experienced my first chat lock-up after quite a few hours on board w/o any problems. That would have been late-afternoon or so.

Keith - I was noticing problems around 9pm. There are a few posts on the PT forum )from last night) that are suspicious as they have no text, but the subject seems to imply there should be text. The posts were from Ken Wright, Bruce Page, and Kent Cori. I was trying to send a post around 9:30 pm with a jpg file and the site was complaining that my file wasn't a .jpg (but the file was a jpg).
Hope some of this helps.

Harvey

I think I started having problems a little before 5 pm yesterday Eastern time

I figured it was just that Aaron had drunk too much coffee & his hands were jittery when he was doing some coding & he hit the wrong key :D

Good luck with the troubleshooting.

I couldn't log on from about 4:00 Eastern time yesterday, and thought you had banned my IP adress. Glad to hear it wasn't something I posted. :)

I saw the problems last night (3/10/03) around 8 to 8:30 EST. Could read all the posts, but when I tried to reply, the reply form came up but would hang when I hit "submit". When I tried to mark forums as "read" it would indicate it had done so, but I still got the yellow arrows that say new post are there. PM did not work during that time. Chat was functional the whole time.

Continued through at least 2:30 PM EST today (3/11/03).

Good luck w/ the fixes,
Ted

Keith, I just did a post on Design forum-cabinet design. It shows no posts and in fact I thought it was a new thread but when i posted all 6 of the others from the other day showed up. Strange! Thought you'd want to know. Paul

Got to work early this morning so I decided to see what was up. The creek was still down. Had problems last night from home too about 8-9 EST. Had a horrible day as a result of not getting any woodworking done in the morning.

All:

Everything's been taken care of--
Just a little 'Flood' of the Creek if you will.
Don't worry-- we can handle many times more
simultaneous connections than we have peaked
at. You're in good hands. :)

Enjoy!

To All,

Well, it was a very long day for us today. I just got home from the office (7:30pm) and between Ray and Aaron's efforts we believe our problem was related to a defective hard drive. Diagnosing a problem that is not consistent is the worst possible case. We did in fact install a new drive and after a major bout of testing we believe the board is stable. Strangely enough we had to reconfigure our chat software which took more time than moving the board and its database.

The Good News

After we finished getting SMC back up and configured Aaron took the time to show me a preview of the vBullitin version 3.0 Beta. I have to tell you that it was just awesome and there are too many new goodies to even try to describe in this message. Version 3.0 has everything we all want especially the sub-threads and a user menu to change your personal preferences right on the main menu. The bottom line is the look of the new software is just amazing, and for those of you who prefer a very plain but fully functional interface it has that also. Aaron has decided to wait until we install version 3 before he unleashes his new custom design for SawMill Creek. I don't think I would be giving away any secrets if I say there will be lots of wood in the new design.

The Bad News

It looks like it could be at least one more month or possibly two before the vBullitin version 3.0 will be available. It will however be worth the wait.

Messages

Those of you who have sent me email or private messages please be patient. Due to the events of the day I am running behind schedule and will be in the shop late tonight playing catch up to a couple of projects that must be shipped tomorrow morning. I will catch up and return everyone's messages tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for your help!

Thanks guys - A lot of work diagnosing an inconsistent problem. Looks like you came through.

Waiting patiently for vB ver 3.0. Sounds cool!
