The thread about the apple bowl inspired me to post this here. I have a small apple tree (about 8" diameter) that must come down. About 15" from the ground is a round gall or something about 12" or so in diameter. I think it is where the trunk was grafted onto root stock, but I am no expert. I would like to know the best way to harvest this. I don't think I will be able to turn it green, in fact, I don't know what I want to do with it. But I don't want it to crack. Thanks for any info or any direction as to where to look for info.

take a picture of the tree and send it to me, i have done a bunch of apple, and a bunch of apple burls. send them to me here curtised781@comcast.net
while you send the pictures you need to decide if you are willing to cut down the whole tree or just cut off the burl, if you have an intrest in seeing what a apple burl would look like, do a search in the turners forum, i have a couple posts, some show the raw burl when i got it, some show the finished bowl
