Well, had a chance to get some turning in, between work, kids, and painting the house (exterior). Let me know what you think, good or bad.

Silver Maple.
One coat of Wipe on Polly so far.
4.5 inches wide, 3 inches high.
Wire burn on the one rim.
Cracks filled with CA and dark brown inlace material.

Tim,

Great looking wood in both.

I like the first one's form because of the curved sides.

On the second one my personal opinion would be for a thinner burned band.

Nice job.

I think it might look bigger in the picture. The wire sunk into the wood once it started to go, so it has some depth the picture doesn't properly show.

It was made made with a 12 gauge solid copper wire. It was all I had on hand, and this was the first time I tried this, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I'll have to get some thinner wires and try them out so I can pick the appropriate size next time.

Tim,

Wow, a 12 gauge wire? It looks like a 1/4" or more in the photo.

like the unusual shapes and color of the wood...they look matte... will you be adding any shine???? thanks for posting....

Think they will stay satin. Here is a pic that shows a better perspective and size reference for the burn:

They are really nice. I especially like the second one with the accent line close to the rim.

Nice bowls Tim! Beautiful wood! Really like the form on the first one. Keep turning - the more you do - the easier it becomes! Have fun!
