Good day

I think that almost all the TS's are coming from the factory "almost" aligned so, I'm using this procedure to "fine tune" the factory "almost"...

As you'll see, I'm not using any Hi-Tech nor Lo-Tech instruments because every blade has some run-out and flutter and I think that the blade itself "knows" the best if it's aligned or not.

I'm just "listening" what the blade it "telling" me and correcting accordingly...

With this method, all the "Arbor run-out", "Blade run-out" and "Blade fluttering" are "included" in the test (I call it "Dynamic test").

The test must be done with the blade at "full up" position.

The "Test piece" should be of MDF

Toooooo the pics.......

On this pic (and the next one), I'm showing the blade stationary which is not the case.
You should push the test piece past the blade while the blade is running at normal speed and listen to the sounds...

Good stuff, Niki! I've often thought of employing a short fence when resawing lumber on my bandsaw.

Niki - don't some of the European table saws use short fences?

Niki - don't some of the European table saws use short fences?

As I know, the short fence is coming as a standard on all the European made saws...even my old model (2001) is equipped with the short fence (it's not mandatory)

Just to clarify, the fence itself is at the length of the table top but we can pull it back to use as short fence for ripping solid wood....for all the Man-Made boards (Plywood MDF etc), we use the "Long" position of the fence.

One correction to the text on the pics that was given to me by the Metabo (the saw maker) engineering department....the short fence should extend up to the center of the blade (Arbor) and not like I typed 1"~2" that was given to me by the British woodworkers.

Thanks Niki - I've been on a safety kick in my shop since I hacked up a few fingers on my TS a while ago. I used some 1/2 inche UHMW polythylene secured with magnets to my fence face to make a short fence. It doesn't give me that space between the blade and fence that your L shaped addition does. I use it when ripping longer pieces of hardwood. I like the idea of moving the long fence back to the mid point on the blade. Didn't think of that when I modified my fence. I wish that the US market would support the safety features that the Europeans do.
