My daughter was being helpful yesterday and cleaned the kitchen. Unfortunately, she used Soft Scrub to clean the formica countertops. Now they look like they've been sanded with 220 grit.

Does anyone know of a way to polish out such scratches in Formica?

Thanks!

Ouch. That's a tuff one.

My first reaction would be to use a silicone-free automotive polish applied repetitively by hand with a cotton terry cloth.

Thanks, Jeff. I was thinking about rubbing compound, but I don't if the stuff I used to use on enamel paint is available anymore.

Pat,

I'd try it in a very obscure place first. Formica is realitively thin. You could polish though the surface and end up with an even worse looking result.

A great time to consider other options maybe?

^^ I knew that was coming! I was afraid Mrs Pat would suggest the granite option. I'm going to get a cabinet saw before we get granite countertops and I'm not backing down. ;)

Micro-surface makes kits to do exactly this.

(one example: https://www.micro-surface.com/default.cfm?page_id=90&id=3dlctrk01&storeid=1)

Thanks, Daniel. That products looks like what we used to call "Canopy Cleaner" in the Navy. I was thinking that would be perfect to polish my countertops, but I didn't know if I could buy it.

That's for "solid surface" tops. I don't think formica is considered solid surface. Dick B.

Sorry:(. No such thing as "removing scratches from Formica", although you can sometimes, temporarily mask the scratches with ole english.

You might consider scratching the whole top to a uniform level so it has that unique, high dollar look.
