I thought it would be fun to see everybody's first project...and maybe a little story?
Mine was made back in 1993. I had just got my Dad's 1953 model Shopsmith with a few accessories (still have it).... and my Mother made that quilt and I thought it would look better hanging on the wall than folded up in a blanket chest. So, here it is. My first project. A Cherry Quilt (pinch bar) Wall Hanger. Let's see your first's!

Mine was completed not long ago (part 1 of 2 bunk bed). It was an ambitious project but I'm glad I did it and so is the boy.:)

I have still have to make the matching one for the other kid. But I'm hold up recovering from shoulder surgery.

this could be perceived as an age question. I think for many here (including me) there was no such thing as a digital camera back then. Good thread though - I'll be watching for sure.

I think my first projects have either been lost over the years, or rotted away. I remember building bird houses, and a sign with our name and street number on it. Those rotted away pretty quickly since I didn't put any sort of finish on them. My father just gave me back one of my earlier projects (8th grade I think) that was taking up space in his garage. It is the 2 shelf w/ hat pegs picture. A piece I made in high school is in our upstairs hallway now. That is the parsons table w/ glass top insert. That is solid oak, which was originally finished w/ clear varnish. A few years ago I rescued it from my parents garage, and refinished it in a dark mahogany stain. My most recent project was the 3'x3' ottoman in our family room, which replaced the coffee table I made a few years ago.

A simple "bread box" with about 60 hours of hand sanding (I didn't know better) in 1972. I don't have any pictures as my first wife still has it at her home at Atlanta Country club along with other furniture I made with a circular saw under a 2 x 4 sheet of ply. Things change...... :)
