Looking for a chuck to keep my cole jaws on as i don"t like changing jaws
that much. Looking for super nova or talon. Even just the body will do.
How about the cheaper chucks, are they any good? Maybe someone out
there has one laying around that they would sell. Byron

Byron,

If you are just going to use your chuck for your cole jaws, you might consider one of the "cheap" imports, such as the "Apprentice" chuck from Craft Supplies USA. It shouldn't be too difficult to make your own cole jaws for the chuck out of MDF. Although, it might be better for you to make a Longworth chuck and use your scroll chuck for things besides reverse-chucking.

Are the longworth chucks only good at closing around the outside of a piece or can they be expanded on the inside so that you can get the outer shape complete?

Russ,
Can be used inside or outside, but it depends upon the shape of your "grippers' and the shape of the rim of your workpiece. Always good to support the work with the tailstock whenever, and whichever way is feasible.
