Hi All - does anyone know if there is any PVC in a CD? Has anyone tried to engrave a CD???

Thanks,

Steve

The disc is polycarbonate, not PVC.

Thats good! Now if I can get the power low enough to not damage the writable side!!! Thanks - I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Steve ---
There's a counterintuitive thing about CDs that might affect what you're doing. The data layer is not in the middle of the CD. It is only two paint layers (a few thousandths of an inch) away from the face with the label on it. If you engrave from the label side, you may destroy data.
You might try engraving on the non-label face. For a bunch of technical reasons, you can scratch this face somewhat, and the CD may continue to be readable.
If you want the long technical explanation about why CDs are built this way, give a shout. Otherwise, I suggest you get a bunch of old CDs and give it a try.

It may also throw off the balance of the CD. These things spin at a pretty high rate of speed.
