I don't know, but I have one just like it. I use it primarily for pulling nails.

Looks like it could be used a tile nibbler/nipper/snip.

It's an antique nail puller. The pike on the one handle is for exposing the head of a nail. On the other handle (left side) there is a paw for lifting the nail up. The plier side is for extracting the nail.

A horse shoer's favorite tool-nip the hooves, pull a out a shoe nail, clean the hoof, or can be used as others have described. I have one in my tack room-guess how I used mine.:D (or ask hubby and he will say stay away from me with that!);)

We call them fencing pliers up here. They're used almost exclusively to pull/pound "staples" from wooden fenceposts.

Do I win?? ;)

That's what I've seen them used for. The horse part, not the husband part. :p

They are also used by sheetmetal workers to pull duct joints together.

They are actually called end cutters. They are for pulling nails and cutting if needed. They did start out in the horse shoeing industry then the carpenters saw them and converted them for their use. Fencing pliers have a hammer head on the side. All you ever want to know:)

Man! That thing has lots of uses. I'm beginning to think that this may be the only tool needed for any job.
Now, remind me again about why I need that shop full of tools I have. Maybe I should sell them all and get me one of these (whatever it's called)..... Naaaa! That thing doesn't look like it is near as much fun as my table saw.:D

Have we decided on a name yet?
I think it may depend on where you live and what you do for a living.

As Jim said, a farrier's nipper. The clipper is used for trimming the hoof. the end of one handle that has a chisel point for removing an old shoe and the other pointed one for cleaning the hoof area prior to putting a new shoe on.
