This is a post oak burl that came from a tree that was struck by lightining.
About 7x9x2 danish oil and buffed. As you can see by the photo the
reason for the purpleheart legs. It was'nt easy to turn either.

Byron - this piece is great! Very nice looking burl and I do have to wonder how you turned it! I also like your use of legs for the piece! Looks like it should be in a gallery somewhere with some strange alien name! Nice work - great imagination! Looking forward to your next turning!

If it don't hold soup it's art. This one definitely won't hold soup. It looks great. Looking forward to more.

The "how'd he do that?" is strong in this one. Great job.

Actually when l tried to turn a tenon there was bark inclusion and half of
the tenon was gone. I was able to secure the half tenon with the chuck
and held my breath that it didn't leave the lathe. Then i reversed
chucked it and took the rest of the tenon off and burned the edges. I
probably couldn"t do that again.

What I really like about this piece is that you stepped outside of the box. Good deal!
