The gentleman that cut up my spalted tree wanted a salad bowl and since he did not charge me anything I plan on taking care of him. He is a great guy and is still cutting wood at the age of NINETY.

He also gave me the piece of maple that is used here. I think it is soft maple since it worked and finished differently that any hard maple that I have ever used.

The piece is 12" x 3 1/2", Antique oil finish, Beal buffed. I put the small burn line at the rim to try and integrate the maple and walnut. The wall thickness is 1/2".

That is a pretty bowl. I like the contrasting wood. Finish looks great.

Absolutely beautiful! The burn at the rim really pulls everything together into a whole. The first thing I said when the pictures popped was "beautiful rim!"

Very nice bowl Toney! Love the wood combination and the burned rim! Sure has a different look to it but it is very pleasing to the eye!

Bowl looks great, especially the finish. Your 90 year old tree trimmer should be very happy. That's an awfully nice tip.
