My biscuit joiner will not hold a depth setting. After screwing the fine adjustment rod, it will without warning go full depth (and cut through 5/8 plywood)! I finally saw the problem. The fine adjustment rod doesn't have any threads! It appeared to be covered with blue Loctite or something most of which is gone.

With a too large awkward magnifying glass I believe I see threads in the moveable casting. I talked to DeWalt "tech" support and she could not help me. The exploded drawing on DeWalt's Website does not show any threaded collar on the rod. I was convinced there had to be a threaded rod to screw into the threaded casting for adjustment. Since there are no threads on the rod, I believed there would be a collar that looked like a set screw drilled out and Loctited onto the rod.

Otherwise, how can you screw a rod into the casting if there are no threads. The plunger spring just pushes the rod out until the joiner bottoms out at full depth.

Anybody have experience with this?

Problem solved! Although the DeWalt tech seemed incredulous that my shaft had no threads, he agreed to send me a new one. No threads on the fine adjustment shaft meant that frequently my slots were the wrong depth. No threads allowed the cutter to plunge full depth regardless of the biscuit size.

Original no threads on left and new replacement on right.

How did they manage to build the first unit with that shaft and sell it without noticing that there were no threads on there??
